The 20-Minute Small-Space Reset

When a small room feels overwhelming, do not try to reorganize the whole home. Use a short reset to restore one useful area and spot the next small improvement.
Set a timer and work in four rounds
Minutes 0–5: Remove obvious clutter
Take out trash, dishes, laundry and anything that belongs in another room. Do not open every drawer or start a sentimental sorting project.
Minutes 5–10: Group what remains
Put similar items together. Grouping reveals duplicates, missing homes and things that drifted away from where they are used.
Minutes 10–15: Clear one surface
Choose a counter, desk, table or nightstand. Return only what is needed there regularly and relocate the rest.
Minutes 15–20: Make one system easier
Put frequently used items at a comfortable height, label a box, or move a container so it can be reached without shifting other things.
